MVD Kalahari was appointed as Structural Engineers for the construction of a Medium Security Prison for 3000 inmates in Kimberley in 2004. Construction of this R830m project started in November 2006 and was completed in April 2009. The prison will be one of the first new generation prisons in South Africa. The prototype design was done by architects and consulting engineers based in Gauteng. MVD Kalahari was responsible for the design and supervision of the earthwork platforms as well as the supervision of all the reinforced concrete structures of all the buildings. All necessary changes, improvements and additions were designed and drawn by the Structural Department of MVD Kalahari.
